As members are quickly discovering, this week, Google unilaterally made the decision to begin restricting all advertising of debt management services in Canada.
As mentioned in the last CAIRP newsletter, the OSB was in contact with Google in early November and advised that a certification process was put in place for Australia, providing the impression that such a process would also be put in place for Canada.
It is unclear as to why Google chose to implement the policy without first providing for a certification process, however, the OSB is in the process of following up with Google to explore the situation. The OSB has advised that they will send LITs further information regarding this matter in the coming days.
Upon review of the ads that Google is currently running, the policy does not seem to be applied evenly to all types of firms and institutions (or even search terms). If you have observations or comments, please feel free to leave them here.
